NA Music Families: Some Uplifting Events from Chorus

NA Music Families: Please read Mrs. Durkin’s letter below about upcoming events.

Dear NAHS Choir Students and Families,

I hope you and your families have been well during these difficult times we are facing. Since music is truly a light for all, we still have some exciting things happening in the Choral Department! Here’s what’s going on over the next few weeks: Monday, May 11 – Thursday, May 14: COMPOSER WEEK! The Treble Choir and Scarlet and Black Singers will be doing a Google Meet with composers of two of our pieces! The choir members will be able to meet the composers and ask them questions about their lives, making music, and any other fun topic they can think of! Because this is such a great opportunity, we are going to Live stream the Google Meet on the North Andover Music Association Facebook page so families, other choir members, and the North Andover music community can watch without clogging up the room and causing audio/ video delays. Here’s the schedule:

Monday, May 11: Elaine Hagenberg, 11am
She wrote the piece “O Love” that Treble Choir was working on. She also wrote the popular choral piece “Music of Stillness”.

Thursday, May 14: Dr. Ethan Sperry, 3:30pm
He wrote “Balleilakka” that Scarlet and Black Singers performed this year. He also wrote the piece “Desh” that Concert Choir competed with last year. He is the conductor for the Portland State Chamber Choir who was supposed to perform at this summer’s World Choral Symposium in New Zealand.

Monday, May 25- Seniors perform for town Memorial Day ceremony
We are working to put together a Virtual Choir of our seniors performing the National Anthem for the town’s Memorial Day ceremony. Check the town website for more info on the ceremony so you can see our seniors in action!

Thursday, May 28- Virtual Spring Concert
We won’t let this virus get us down! Although we cannot have our annual Spring Concert in its traditional format, it’s important for us to continue to make music together through these trying times. Our choir members will be creating a Celebration of our Seniors, where everyone will perform and compile 30-second clips of every song they have performed since their freshman year! It’s going to be a lot of fun! More details will follow as we get closer to the event.

Thank you all for your continued support of our music programs. Please contact me with any questions.

Best Regards,
Sara Durkin
