260+ NAHS Band and Chorus Students Travel to California for National Invitational Festival!

Each having earned a Gold Medal rating during the 2016 World Strides Heritage Music Festival in Williamsburg, VA, four NAHS band and chorus ensembles were invited to participate in the World Strides National Invitational Festival of Gold in Orange County, CA, March 24 – 28.

The NAHS Concert Choir, Scarlet & Black Singers, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, led by Chorus Director Sara Durkin and Band Director Justin Smalley, performed at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA.  The NAHS ensembles were joined by others from Nevada, California, Washington, Iowa, Oregon, and Mississippi.

During the four day trip, students also attended instructional clinics with renowned music professionals, enjoyed a day at Disneyland, spent an afternoon at Huntington Beach, and attended an impressive performance of the Broadway musical Finding Neverland at the Segerstrom Center.

Congratulations to Mrs. Durkin, Mr. Smalley, and all of the talented NAHS musicians, and thank you to the many hard-working parent chaperones who helped make this amazing trip possible!
