During a March 3rd meeting, the North Andover School Committee gratefully accepted donations exceeding $37,000 offered by the North Andover Music Association since its last presentation in May of 2019.  Additional direct support to students nearing $10,000 was also reported.

NAMA President, Linda Burns; Treasurer, Kim Hearst; and Volunteer Coordinator, Karen Bussell, were pleased to make special note of a number of contributions, including $11,874 for the purchase of 120 insulated rain jackets for the Scarlet Knights Marching Band; $10,050.00 for marching band honoraria, color guard uniforms, and sets; a $5,300 set of chimes for NAHS bands; a $969 bell kit for NAMS bands; a $1,125 bass xylophone for the Franklin School; $2,278.00 for NAHS choir uniforms; $1,575.00 for NAHS choir clinicians; $2,000 in support for the NAHS chorus and band trip to the Worldstrides Festival in Boston this April; and $1,000 in startup funding for a winter guard program at NAHS.

In addition to the donations provided to the NAPS music programs, NAMA directly supported college-bound music students with a combined $6,300 in scholarships in 2020 and 2021, purchased $2,886 for plaques and trophies for music department award ceremonies, and continues to fund a stipend program offering assistance of up to $100 for students attending extracurricular music educational programs.

On behalf of the NAMA Board, Burns expressed deep appreciation for the continuous support from numerous volunteers, donors, and patrons within the North Andover community.  Of particular mention was the generosity of the many friends and colleagues of NAMS teacher and former NAMA board member, Sue Francoeur, who gifted $2,340 in memory of Mrs. Francoeur’s parents, William and Victoria Simoneau, as well as the extraordinary contributions from Hal and Kim Hearst toward the marching band rain jacket project.
